*A Note*
I am not an expert in online websites... I just happen to be interested in what people are doing. I have been using some of these websites for several years now and I am always finding new features and new websites that blow my mind. The school has a policy of Not using social networking sites! and we will respect that in this class... but that doesn't mean that you can't link up these things later (if you choose to do so OUTSIDE of SCHOOL). All of the things we do in this class will depend on you and how much you want to put into it. All of these projects will always be available to you if you choose to continue them... that's the fun of online projects.
1) Read the following article
My Online Life
2) What is the point of the article? (In Your Notes)
3) Watch the following video
4) What is the point of web 2.0? (In Your Notes)
5) Web 2.0 is already considered kind of out of date. It has been upgraded by the Semantic Web (web 3.0). The semantic web uses all of the information users have generated in web 2.0 and links it all together through the new technological mediums that have come into existence in the past few years (think Iphone apps). These devices (your car, your phone, your video games, eventually your clothes, refrigerator etc) will continue to communicate together through the web so that you don't even need to look things up, because it will already have the information.
For example, your phone will know how much milk is left in your refrigerator so if you are at the grocery store you can buy more.... or more probably it will order it for you online and have it delivered before you run out.
The following is a funny way of showing the differences between web 2.0 and the Semantic Web
This video is a little old but gets the point across
Now that you know a little about the web as it stands today... what websites are you already a part of? (Make a list)
What websites do you know about? (Make a list)
